North Myrtle Beach Sunglasses Half Marathon Recap!

Oh, how sad to be right. But in the ashes of defeat are the seeds of victory, so here’s my 2022 – inaugural! – North Myrtle Beach Sunglasses Half Marathon race recap all the same. We begin with a 4:45am wakeup call (still luxuriously late compared to runDisney) and the 55-minute trek from Wilmington down to North Myrtle Beach. I built in plenty of time to start late, get lost, or get stuck in 5K traffic, but everything went smoothly and we arrived around 6:15am, well in advance of the half marathon 7:45am start time. Incidentally, when I say...

The Fairest Trip Report Of All: 2022 Princess Half Marathon Recap

It’s trip report time again! Read all the posts in this trip report here. Onward! First thing first: I woke up on time for the Princess Half Marathon. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it forever: this is by far the scariest part of any race. Once you’re awake, you’re home free, baby! Despite the adrenaline shot to the heart that is the shrill voice of the WDW wakeup call, I woke up feeling reasonably rested and alert considering it was 2am. I bopped through race prep, Erika did the same, and we headed out into the cold...

Surprise! The Wilmington Historic 5K & Half Marathon Race Recap(s)

I didn’t know I had any more races on the schedule this year either! But when the random chance to run the Wilmington Historic Half Marathon popped up, I went for it. Of course, I say the Wilmington Historic Half, but by the time I registered it was sold out. Unless I wanted to run the 5K, just the challenge was available – run the 5K at 7am, then the half marathon at 7:45am. What the heck, I figured, I’ll do it as a training run for the WDW Marathon in January, and I signed up. The key element...

The Fairest Trip Report Of All: Wine & Dine Half Marathon Recap

It’s trip report time again! Read all posts in this trip report here. Well, you ask, how was the Wine & Dine Half Marathon this year? How was the first in-person runDisney event since February of 2020? Well. Let me tell you. To start, and I’m sure this is an unpopular opinion, I wish the race didn’t occur during a time change. The extra hour of sleep is great in theory, but it just makes me anxious that something will go wrong with the tech and I’ll oversleep. Yes, I recognize I am a crazed paranoiac, but here we...

In Which Jenn Recaps The Battleship Half Marathon

Okay, so the Battleship Half Marathon may not have been a triumph, but it turned out fine. The race was a bit unusual in that in order to accommodate COVID precautions, the start would be staggered across several hours. My wave time was 8:30am, so I didn’t even have to wake up until like 6:30am (which if you’re into runDisney is like one in the afternoon, seriously). My dad drove me over to the race start, and as we crossed the bridge to downtown Wilmington I saw the marathoners who had started at 6:30am already out on the course....

In Which Jenn Is Off To The Races

Sunday is race day! Dang. Haven’t said that in awhile. This race will mark a lot of firsts for me. It’ll be my first non-cancelled in-person race in a post-COVID world, for starters. It will also, believe it or not, be my first half marathon since 2018 – due to some life changes, I only ran two races last year, both of them marathons. And it’ll be the first time running the Battleship Half Marathon! I am, as anyone who knows me might expect, equal parts anxious and excited – although I must admit, anxiety is pulling more weight...

In Which Jenn Runs The Virtual Parks Half Marathon

I’ve said this before, but just to reiterate: I’m not really a virtual race kinda gal. I only generally do them if a premium is REALLY good or if a race gets virtual-ized and it’s the only¬†option available if I want to recoup my investment. However, when the Parks Half Marathon went virtual, I signed up even though I wasn’t registered for the live version. I mean, it’s one of my former favorite hometown races, it was only $25, and the premium WASN’T just another race tee! Score! Unfortunately, when plotting out my training schedule that month, I accidentally...

In Which Jenn’s Race Is On! (Mostly)

Hey! I actually get to run an in-person race! Remember when I had the audacity to put together a race schedule for 2020? I was so young and full of hope. Which of course turned out to be stupid and everything is cancelled, including some of my early 2021 races. Boo. Happily, there is one light on the near horizon – the Battleship Half Marathon in Wilmington is ON! Well, mostly. I was originally signed up to do the 5K on Saturday and then half on Sunday, but the 5K has indeed been cancelled. It was apparently in conjunction...

In Which Jenn Runs The Race Her Own Darn Self

Back in January of 2017, some brave Walt Disney World Half Marathon registrants set a precedent: when your runDisney race is cancelled, you run it anyway on your own. And so last Sunday, the woulda-been date of the Star Wars Rival Run Half Marathon, I set out on the streets of San Juan to run 13.1 by myself. I wore my intended race outfit, as viewed below. You see, when it comes to the Stars, I prefer to Trek. ;P I started at 5:45am, which is probably somewhere in the general area I would’ve started the race anyway, give...

The Fairest Trip Report Of All: The 2020 WDW Half Marathon

And now for my favorite kind of post – the trip report! I’ll be covering my 2020 Marathon trip.¬†You can read all the posts in this report here. Onward! Another alarm successfully not slept through! I would celebrate without restraint, were I not too busy knocking on wood. Yes, Erika and I woke to our 2:30am alarm on Saturday morning, determined as I am to not just be on time for the bus but among the most on-time-est. We dressed and wandered out into the night, climbing onto a bus without difficulty. We took up the long march to...
