In Which Jenn Hosts The 2021 Walt Disney World Marathon’s Wake

I hope you enjoyed my light complaining earlier this week, because today we’re going to do some heavy complaining: I should be in Walt Disney World right now. 🙁 🙁 🙁 I should be picking up my race bib! I should be planning out my pre-race meal! I should be there for the Walt Disney World Marathon! But I’m not. My love is cancelled. We all know that. And I know, too, that compared to other tragedies COVID has wrought, the cancellation of a race is hardly at the top of the list. But it’s been my absolute favorite...

In Which Jenn Shares Her Rarest Character Race Photos

Pat and I were talking the other day about how we hope we can ride Splash Mountain one more time before the refurb starts. Now, I have gone on record as being 100% on board with the overhaul. But still, a final ride-through to say goodbye would be nice. That got me thinking – once, a long time ago, during the 2016 WDW Marathon, I got a photo with Brer Fox and Brer Bear. It’s the only time I’ve ever seen either character, in the parks or as part of a runDisney event. Perhaps they’ll appear one more time...

In Which Jenn Mourns More Lost runDisney Races

Annnnnnnnnnd there it is. I was just about to sit down and type up a cute little post about my latest Disney dress, but NO – the universe had to go ahead and hit me where it hurts. As you are more than likely aware, both Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend and Princess Half Marathon Weekend are cancelled. To quote myself expressing my feelings on the matter: Blarg. Blarg, I say!!! I know, I know. It’s not the end of the world. But boy am I bummed all the same. The WDW Marathon is my favorite day of the...

In Which Jenn Has A Rough Sketch Of A Race Schedule?

And now for race schedule that might get cancelled. Kidding! Kidding. Hopefully they all happen. Certainly the virtual ones will. I’ve never been a virtual race girl. Kudos if they’re your jam, but I find the medal without the full experience of a race attached to be underwhelming. Still, the world being but it is in the age of COVID-19, I’ve adjusted my outlook a little. For starters, the Rock ‘n Roll Race Series has started a virtual race experience where everything is free! I mean, you can order medals to accompany your accomplishments if you like, but it’s...

In Which Jenn Has A New runDisney Race Registration Strategy

I’m gonna cut right to the chase here: my new runDisney race strategy is that I’m registering for ALL OF THEM. I took the Annual Passholder route last week to register for the WDW Marathon early, because it is my One True Race. Luckily, the marathon is the least popular of the races/challenges of that weekend, so I had no trouble getting in, but every other race opportunity sold out quickly. I’m hearing COVID-19’s got Disney putting a lower cap on the totals, so for all of you gunning for a registration tomorrow, I wish you good hunting. More...

In When Jenn LIKES Doing “Just” The WDW Marathon

Just the 2018 WDW Marathon was my favorite race so far! A couple days after the Walt Disney World Marathon, half the people you encounter in Orlando International Airport ran the race. We’re all decked out in our gear, a lot of have on our medals, and we’re all dying to talk about it; it’s one of the only times I ever cheerfully talk to strangers. So there I am, chatting with a nice family from Houston as I wait outside my gate with my subpar airport wrap. Seeing my medal, they congratulate me on completing the Goofy Challenge....

In Which Jenn Can runDisney Photo Dump Again, Hooray!

Despite my better fiscal judgment, I have an WDW Annual Pass once again, and you know what that means, kids – I CAN ACCESS MY RUNDISNEY PHOTOPASS RACE PHOTOS FOR FREE! And then I can make you look at them. Wait, no, don’t click away! Don’t you want to read my commentary??? It’s pithy and judiciously deployed, I promise! For context, if you like that sort of thing: WDW Half Marathon Recap | WDW Marathon Recap HALF MARATHON Arranged in height order. MARATHON I spent entirely too long making this. I don’t know what it’s for. “How horrible our Christmas will...

The Fairest Trip Report Of All: The 2020 WDW Marathon

And now for my favorite kind of post – the trip report! I’ll be covering my 2020 Marathon trip. You can read all the posts in this report here. Onward! This is the story about how a recurrent IT band issue left me horrifically undertrained for the WDW Marathon, a full 26.2 miles worth of running in high heat and humidity, and also I was already tired from running a half marathon the day before and somehow it was AMAZING and I loved it and it was even better than last year??? As the Mad Hatter advises, we shall begin...

In Which Jenn Is Registered For The 2020 Walt Disney World Marathon, Obviously

Today in surprising turns of events: yesterday I registered for the 2020 Walt Disney World Marathon. I KNOW! Shocking! I’ve only done it the last 5 years in a row while periodically gushing about how it’s my favorite thing to happen all year. It feels especially important to me right now as I am on a temporary runDisney hiatus given our move to Puerto Rico. Indeed, preliminary research seems to suggest I don’t have a ton of races to choose from here at all. I hope to get right back in the thick of things next year, but for...

In Which Jenn Doesn’t Like One Part Of The WDW Marathon

Time was when my least favorite part of the Walt Disney World Marathon was the Wide World of Sports. It’s roundabouts miles 17 – 21, so, already you’re tired. Although a “park” of sorts, it’s no proper theme park. And as you enter the area, you run up against the people exiting the area, and you know they’re like four miles ahead of you. Screw those guys! Not you, Minnie. You’re cool.   But as I age, so do I soften. No, just kidding. I haven’t softened, I’ve just shifted my hatred. Wide World of Sports is now pretty okay in my book. It’s still...
