The Fairest Week In Review: 4/29

Just me again this week, folks. Moon has jetted off to Israel with her boyfriend and for some bizarre reason neglected to take me with her. But never fear – I have every intention of roping her into a solo post soon, lest you all go into Moon withdrawal. That’s all right, I have things to tell you anyway. For starters, ask me how many times I intend to run this week. Go ahead, ask me. I’ll wait. Ready? Okay. ZERO. (source) For the first time in what feels like forever, I will be taking a full week off...

In Which Jenn Has A Sweaty Hair Epiphany

Several years ago I read a supposed statistic that something like 50% of women don’t work out because they don’t want to mess up their hair. Now, I don’t know if that’s a ridiculous fabrication or an equally ridiculous truth, but I CAN tell you that I recently had a Workout + Hair Epiphany. It happened when my roommate joined the legion of people, both Real Life- and Media-Based, that insist that you shouldn’t wash your hair more than, max, three times a week. It strips your hair of necessary oils and what have you and you’ll have a...

In Which Jenn Regroups With A New Goal

For awhile, there was the small but real possibility that I might be able to move to Orlando. Last week that hope was dashed. So – what does one do in the wake of such a disappointment? Regroup, of course! First, I must remind myself that as much as I would die for year-round warmth and Walt Disney World proximity, there are good things about staying where I am. I like my current job. Moving is hard, especially over long distances. My friends are here (and are hereby not allowed to move anywhere without my permission). And, ever irreplaceable,...

The Fairest Week In Review: 2/03

Hiii guys! Sorry no Moon today; I just got back from New York City and I’m pounding this out before I crash. NO I WAS NOT THERE FOR THE SUPERB OWL. I refuse to acknowledge the Superb Owl until it becomes an actual superb owl. My ballet studio went there to see the New York City Ballet perform AWESOME pieces including one of my all-time favorites, Union Jack. And THEN the next morning we took class with one of their dancers. Also I ate the greatest black and white cookie ever and bought a one-of-a-kind handmade necklace in a...

The Fairest Week in Review: 11/12

Hello, humans! I had yesterday off for Veteran’s Day and used it to cram in my longest run yet. It was supposed to happen on Sunday, but I had a ballet performance on Saturday evening which evidently required a next-day crash; I spent most of the day sleeping. Us artsy types are weird. Look at my pretty pointe shoes! But never mind all that. Last week’s training went surprisingly well! Even when I took my run in the morning I cranked out a good one – and I am NOT a morning person. I wish I knew what, exactly,...

In Which Jenn is Not Very Good at Tapering

TAPERING IS HARD, YOU GUYS. It seems counter-intuitive – I mean, the principle behind tapering is that you spend the last week or two before a race running with LESS mileage and LESS intensity, so as to save your strength for the big race push. That means that tapering comes with LESS difficult runs – or at least, it ought to. And it would for me too, were I somehow able to do it properly. For starters, I can’t seem to get myself to start tapering until the last minute. My half marathon is this Sunday; last Sunday, I...

In Which Crosstraining is Discussed & Jenn Tries to Sell Moon on Ballet

JENN: What’s your cross-training regimen? MOON: You always ask me first. I insist you share this time! JENN: Haha, okay! I try to do some push-ups plus crunches, and similar ab exercises on a regular basis. I say try, but in all honesty I don’t do it very often… I’m a little better about grabbing some low-weight dumbbells and doing some basic arm exercises. The problem with all of it is – and I know this is kinda weird in a small apartment gym – if there’s anyone else there I get REALLY self-conscious about doing anything other than...
