In Which Jenn Likes Yoga Because Of Disney, Obviously

Since I moved to Puerto Rico I don’t have as many cross-training opportunities as I once did. Well, I say that – all I ever used to do was ballet. I’ve actually been doing some weight training and resistance exercises in addition to running, so you could argue that I’m doing more cross-training, maybe? But I miss ballet. Not to say there isn’t ballet in PR. Obviously there totally is. But we’re sharing a car now and there are no dance studios in easy distance of me. Boo. Yet when we first arrived and lived in temporary quarters, for a...

The Fairest Week In Review: 10/18

Hey, remember that time when my knee started bothering me and I wrote this whole post about how I took some unscheduled rest days and sometimes you have to do that and then you’re all better yay? Hahahahaha PSYCH. Oh, man, guys. This isn’t good. I have a marathon THIS SATURDAY and while this is self-diagnosed I am 97% sure I’m having IT Band issues. The good news is that I’ve at least been smart enough to rest it and with the judicious application of some KT Tape sent by angels I have improved the situation considerably. The bad news is...

In Which Jenn Gets Jazzed For A Long Run

Last week I came to a startling realization: I was actually excited about my planned 16 mile long run. I expressed this unexpected feeling on Twitter and received the expected response: that I was crazy, and everyone who had a long run on the docket was dreading it. And so I thought: what if I explained how I got myself this psyched up? Maybe my fellow runners could follow the same method and at least manage to downgrade outright dread to reluctant acceptance. In that spirit, try some of these on for shoe size: Get some new music. Duh. Everyone...

The Fairest Week In Review: 10/07

JENN: Did you run at all this week? MOON: Ouiii. I’m actually a bit burned out JENN: Awww. How are you burned out? MOON: I’ve decided that I need to add strength training in again. The lower half of my body is pretty set, but I can’t tell you what a difference there is between my legs and my arms. XD Ultimately, I think this will help me run faster… Or at least give me the push I need to crank up the pace a bit. JENN:Yeah, I was doing some upper body work for awhile there and just kinda wandered away from...

The Fairest Week In Review: 6/24

JENN: So how has the running been? MOON: Not too bad, how about you? JENN: Last week was actually surprisingly good. I wound up covering about 40 miles over the course of the week, which is 7 – 10 more than my average. Mind you, it helped that it was a no-ballet week. Ballet starts again today, so I doubt I’ll be repeating such high numbers. MOON: That is many miles. JENN: Yeah, and some of ’em were a little faster than my recent sub par times! And some were slower. But whatever. I even tried the speedwork I talked about last week. I’m...

In Which Crosstraining is Discussed & Jenn Tries to Sell Moon on Ballet

JENN: What’s your cross-training regimen? MOON: You always ask me first. I insist you share this time! JENN: Haha, okay! I try to do some push-ups plus crunches, and similar ab exercises on a regular basis. I say try, but in all honesty I don’t do it very often… I’m a little better about grabbing some low-weight dumbbells and doing some basic arm exercises. The problem with all of it is – and I know this is kinda weird in a small apartment gym – if there’s anyone else there I get REALLY self-conscious about doing anything other than...
