The Fairest Trip Report Of All: The 2020 WDW Marathon

And now for my favorite kind of post – the trip report! I’ll be covering my 2020 Marathon trip. You can read all the posts in this report here. Onward! This is the story about how a recurrent IT band issue left me horrifically undertrained for the WDW Marathon, a full 26.2 miles worth of running in high heat and humidity, and also I was already tired from running a half marathon the day before and somehow it was AMAZING and I loved it and it was even better than last year??? As the Mad Hatter advises, we shall begin...

In Which Jenn Is Off To Walt Disney World Once Again

And away I go! (Almost.) Tomorrow is day 1 of my Walt Disney World Marathon (or in this case, Goofy) trip, and as always, I am JAZZED. There’ve been some hiccups – my MDE tags went to the wrong address; WDW sent my Magic Bands too late – but everyone knows that a bad rehearsal leads to a good performance. As we say in ballet: merde! As per usual, I shall now provide you with my bucket list for this trip: – Do not die during Goofy! I’m undertrained as hell BUT my KT Tape regimen seems to be...

In Which Jenn’s Dream-Dad Is Super Confused About The WDW Marathon Course

I’ve told you about my runDisney stress dreams before. They come in a variety of guises, but the gist usually boils down to this: SOMETHING HAS GONE WRONG! Dream me has missed her flight. Dream me has slept through her alarm. Dream me has forgotten to pick up her bib and also somehow taken a nap in the middle of the race. Dream me even registered herself in a Disney triathlon that does not exist and Brad Pitt was PISSED. But don’t worry, my subconscious is still innovating. Last night’s marathon stress dream got really far off property. So dream me...

In Which Jenn Is Registered For The 2020 Walt Disney World Marathon, Obviously

Today in surprising turns of events: yesterday I registered for the 2020 Walt Disney World Marathon. I KNOW! Shocking! I’ve only done it the last 5 years in a row while periodically gushing about how it’s my favorite thing to happen all year. It feels especially important to me right now as I am on a temporary runDisney hiatus given our move to Puerto Rico. Indeed, preliminary research seems to suggest I don’t have a ton of races to choose from here at all. I hope to get right back in the thick of things next year, but for...

In Which Jenn Doesn’t Like One Part Of The WDW Marathon

Time was when my least favorite part of the Walt Disney World Marathon was the Wide World of Sports. It’s roundabouts miles 17 – 21, so, already you’re tired. Although a “park” of sorts, it’s no proper theme park. And as you enter the area, you run up against the people exiting the area, and you know they’re like four miles ahead of you. Screw those guys! Not you, Minnie. You’re cool.   But as I age, so do I soften. No, just kidding. I haven’t softened, I’ve just shifted my hatred. Wide World of Sports is now pretty okay in my book. It’s still...

Oh, post-marathon week off from running, I hardly new ye. Workout recap, go: Sunday | The Walt Disney World Marathon, 26.2 miles around WDW in 5:05:47 Not as good as last year’s, but that race was so magnificent I could hardly expect such a thing to happen every time. I wanted to go for a walk but was busy at work and didn’t have time.  Wednesday | rest But I did have...

The Fairest Trip Report Of All: The WDW Marathon

Continuing my trip report for my January 2019 WDW trip. See all the posts in this report here. Onward! The last two years have seen unseasonably chilly temperatures for Florida during the Walt Disney World Marathon. This year, I bolted upright in bed at 2:35am in the morning as always, but to a very different world. It was already 60 degrees; indeed, I dressed in my Figment best for the race and then topped it off with a single thin long-sleeve shirt as a throwaway. Fancy that – a WDW Marathon where I wasn’t freezing to death. Under the...

The Fairest Week In Review: 1/16

Once again, it’s all behind me. I can’t believe I have to wait another year to run the Walt Disney World Marathon. A year! A WHOLE YEAR! How am I supposed to enjoy life when I know that I could be enjoying it much more if only I were limping through the ESPN Wide World Of Sports?! On a more serious note, I touched on this a bit via Twitter, but I wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks to the TSA and air traffic controllers for working for no pay during the furlough. My little heart longs for the WDW Marathon,...

The Fairest Week In Review: 12/12

It’s beginning to look a lot like… WDW MARATHON TRAINING PEAK TIME!!! Yup, my pre-WDW Marathon 15-miler approacheth, and I am READY. For starters, it helps that it’s only 15 miles. Should I do a longer run? Probably. But it feels like I just finished the Marine Corps Marathon and Two Course Challenge and I don’t care to push myself. Besides, I’ve done a mere 15 miles before this race before. It’s not like I’m running it for time. I’m running it for maximum FUN! MAXIMUM FUN!!! Other training notes ahead: Sunday | ran 10.24 miles outside in 1:45 Monday | walked 2.28 miles...
