In Which Elizabeth Goes To Kings Dominion

Occasionally, my friends will run a race or go to theme park without me and then make the grave mistake of telling me about it, at which point I strongarm them into writing me up a guest post. So let’s welcome back the indomitable Elizabeth, who is here to tell you all about the Halloween haunts of Kings Dominion in Virginia! I went to Kings Dominion’s Halloween Haunt for the first time this year, and it did not disappoint!  There were two main components: scare zones and mazes (i.e. haunted houses). The scare zones were designated, themed areas where...

In Which Jenn & Elizabeth Visit Kings Dominion

A couple weeks ago Elizabeth and I went to Kings Dominion in Doswell, VA, to run a 5K and 10K, respectively. Our race fee included park admission in the price, so we stayed on post-race to ride some coasters. Here are our thoughts on the experience. JENN: Ready to talk about Kings Dominion? ELIZABETH: Yes! JENN: Was it your first time there? It was mine! ELIZABETH: I think I was there once as a small child? I seem to have a vague memory, but nothing stands out, so it might as well have been! JENN: The nice thing about running a race through...

In Which Elizabeth Recaps The Kings Dominion Run & Ride 5K

Please welcome my partner in crime, roller coasters, and life plans, Elizabeth, for a recap of the Kings Dominion Run & Ride 5K! Click here for my recap of the 10K on the same day. So, I think I may have gone to King’s Dominion once long ago as a child, but I had no real memory of it, so this was a good opportunity for me to try out all of their roller coasters (and other rides, of course). It was a bit chilly (I think somewhere in the 50’s) that morning, but it was really a good...

In Which Jenn Recaps The Kings Dominion Run & Ride 10K

Guys. Guys guys. I ran a race in an amusement park and it wasn’t runDisney. Last Sunday, the ever-popular, ever-magnificent Elizabeth and I got up at 4:30am and drove down to Kings Dominion amusement park in Doswell, VA. The hour-and-a-half-sans-traffic trip went smoothly, and we arrived in plenty of time to pick up our packets and prep for our runs. The morning included a 10k, a 5k, and a 1 mile fun run, with me slated to run the 10k and Elizabeth the 5k. Packet pickup was quick and easy with no line despite it being the morning of. Packets...

In Which Jenn Commandeers Elizabeth’s Race Prep

Hi guys! As you may recall, Elizabeth and I are running the Run & Ride Kings Dominion 5k and 10k, respectively, on Sunday. I thought you might like to see this email I sent her on the logistics of our trip and race prep. Not that you’ll be running this precise race, probably, but it’ll get you in the headspace of a destination race, right? Onward for some advice! Note: Please always check before using my futon. Okay, as promised, here is a Logistical Email & Race Packing List! Full of information you probably already know because I’m a...

In Which Jenn Has A Race Schedule Addendum

I’m adding a race to my schedule! Surprised? I was too. Once my schedule is set I’m not generally in the market for additions. But this is an unusual race: it’s the inaugural Run & Ride 10k at Kings Dominion amusement park in Virginia! I’m not usually one for 5Ks and 10Ks, preferring to set my sights on higher mileage. But this race is unique: I’ll be running through Kings Dominion itself, weaving around roller coasters and high fiving Snoopy, who is apparently on loan from Knotts Berry Farm or something? It’s so hard to keep track of who’s...
