Harmonious album art

Wait, There’s An Extended Harmonious Soundtrack?!

Last week, you may have noticed me waxing lyrical about the Harmonious soundtrack in my Tessitura 5K recap. You know Harmonious, yes? Epcot fireworks. Yeah. Doubtless you thought nothing of my using fireworks music to run; that’s practically de rigueur in the runDisney community. But what if I told you… there’s an extended version of the soundtrack? It was YouTube that drove me to find this treasure. Normally I listen to a lot of my Disney attraction soundtracks, background music, etc. off YouTube. But my God, guys, the advertisements on that platform have gotten SO AGGRESSIVE. I don’t mind...

Runner's World is surprised by classical music

Try My Classical Music Running Playlist

The last Runner’s World issue was dedicated to music. Among the many articles on its (tremendous!) importance was a small feature detailing what music the magazine’s subscribers tend to jam to most often on their runs. The editors expressed their surprise by how often Beethoven was cited as a driving force. Me? Not even! People talk about growing up in a Beatles or a Stones family. I grew up in a Classical Music Only family. If my mom was in the car, we listened to classical music. With my dad we occasionally listened to some classic rock, but he...

In Which Jenn Shares Her Long Run Disney Parks Playlist

Pray for me now and in the hour of my 17 mile training run. I will appreciate those prayers when the time comes (tomorrow), but as they say: the Lord helps those who help themselves. In addition to prayers, I shall try to make my long run as painless minimally painful as possible with the help of such items as KT Tape, mocha Clif Shots, a spare water bottle, and, of course, music. (Amazon links are affiliate!) I will start out with my usuals from Amazon Music (Aerosmith!) or my own personal iTunes stash (J. Roddy/Floggy Molly/Jukebox the Ghost),...

In Which Jenn Listens To ALL The Music Live

I feel like we haven’t talked about music lately, so here’s a whole bunch of it. Do you guys get inspired to listen to a particular artist when you know you’re going to see them live soon? I do! It’s a great way to zone out when I’m running: imagining I’m at the concert and not pounding away at the treadmill. Lucky for me, I have tickets to three great concerts coming up over the next couple months. Or that just happened; I originally wrote this post last week but it got punted from its planned Friday slot in...

In Which Jenn Hacks Her Headphones

Can you run without music? I can – to a point – kind of – but UGH. I also sweat. Therefore, running-specific headphones are a must for me. Which is why I was so incredibly distressed when I couldn’t find my yurbuds last week – they’re the headphones with the in-ear twist-lock buds, and then the model I use also has over-ear hooks. I got out my backup pair and it promptly shorted out. Naturally. Sure, I could buy another pair, but for the immediate future I was in a bit of a bind. So I got clever. Yurbuds come...

In Which Jenn Has A Marathon Song

Do you have a marathon song? Maybe you trained with it, maybe you just listened to it during your marathon. Maybe you chose it for the lyrics, maybe you chose it for the beat. Maybe you played it to start your race – or end it – or both. No matter what makes it your marathon song, the moment it pops up on your iPod you’re instantly transported back to that moment. Mine is “The Great Unknown” by Jukebox the Ghost. Got me through the Marine Corps Marathon! What’s yours? Don’t forget, you can follow FRoA on Twitter @fairestrunofall and on Instagram @fairestrunofall....

Music + Running: When Headphones & Sneakers Do Not Entertain a Happy Marriage

No doubt you’re sick of Jenn prattling on, so for a change of pace, here’s a solo Moon post! Yay! Hey gang! I’m venturing on a new series, here. Hopefully this narrative will get more interesting as we push forward, but bear with me for a bit. But, before I get too preachy, how about revealing what the series actually is. Music and Running Let me preface with the admission that I use the term “running” loosely. I know there are many serious runners for and against listening to music while running. Perhaps we can tackle this debate at...
