Walt Disney and his dinosaur friend

Thoughts While Watching: Disneyland Goes To The World’s Fair, 1964

And we’re back with another entry in my Thoughts While Watching series! Marvel as I drop pithy comment after pithy comment about vintage Disney media in real time! I hope! (I hope it’s pithy, anyway; I’ve given up on time.)* * More thorough explanation here. Today we are diving into a most intriguing “World of Color” episode entitled “Disneyland Goes to the World’s Fair.” Given that it first hit television in 1964, I think it’s safe to say we’re heading to New York. If you’re any kind of Disney fan – and if you’re here that seems likely –...

Treadmill

Uh, I Forgot How To Run On A Treadmill

The last time I had used a treadmill? Oh, early March 2020. And gee, can you think why? OH, ONCE I LOVED A TREADMILL There was a time in my life when the treadmill was nearly the ONLY way I ran. Hills? Terrain? Weather? I didn’t know them. All I knew was the inside of a gym and the consistency of the treadmill. Those who claimed to hate the thing, that it made running so much harder, only served to render me befuddled. WHY? You could put on TV, plunk a water bottle down in the cupholder, and begin....

WDW trip report - Pop Century

Pop Century Stole My Hair Towel & Other Lost Stuff

Question for you frequent WDW visitors: how much of your lost stuff do you think Disney has collected over the years? I ask because back in January, Pop Century Mousekeeping STOLE my hair towel!!!! JK, I’m confident it was an honest mistake. Housekeeping is stretched really thin right now with understaffing issues, and they’re working quickly. My hair towel was white, and while I kept it out of the bathroom, they were probably just grabbing everything without inspection. I filed a missing item report and emailed Disney but no one ever got back to me. 🙁 Oh well; it...

Airplane drinking problem

Runner, Hydrate Thyself (Try My Water Hack!)

You’re gonna hate this, but it’s true: drinking more water really will help. Help with what? Oh, everything. This goes double for runners, obviously. When you work out, you sweat, and when you sweat, you lose water, and you have to put that water back if you want to perform at your best and/or not die. During physical activity of some length, sports drinks can be a superior option, but on a whole nothing can replace plain ol’ water. Yet it’s surprisingly hard to drink enough, right? … Right? Sometimes I can’t tell the difference between experiences that are...

Donald in Mathmagic Land

Happy Friday: Donald In Mathmagic Land

Got a minute for some nostalgia on nostalgia on nostalgia for today’s Happy Friday post? Yeah? Donald Duck will be there – yeah, I figured you’d like that. Also we’re doing some math – NO WAIT COME BACK! Not math math. More like “your teacher is hungover and therefore will be replacing the lesson plan with a movie” math. There ya go. Have a seat; you’ll dig this. I don’t remember when I first saw the 1959 Disney short “Donald in Mathmagic Land,” but my best guest would be 5th grade. My G/T math teacher was cool like that....

El Coqui Water Park

El Coqui, The Water Park By The Sea

Puerto Rico is a wonderful place, and you should all come visit me immediately. I’ll show you my favorite running trail, and afterward you can hurl yourself into the ocean. You’ll love it. One thing PR expressly does not have, however, is theme parks. Nor less elaborate amusement parks. Nor even traveling fairs. If you don’t count zip lines and funiculars (which I might – more on that in a second!), there’s nary a ride to be had on the whole island. No roller coasters, no dark rides. The closest I can find is go-karts but I don’t really...

C’mon, Tron: Lightcycle Run, What’s Taking So Long? Well, Pat Can Explain

Listen, I don’t force Walt Disney World on people. But when you’re around me a lot, well… let’s just say Pat has now been to WDW 3 times since we met and subscribes to the WDW subreddit. Which leads us, believe or not, to the theme of today’s blog post: why is it taking so long for Disney to build the new roller coaster Tron: Lightcycle / Run in Orlando when it’s ostensibly just a copy of an already existent ride in Hong Kong Disneyland? (Image above is direct from Disney and was found here. It details progress from...

Race Schedule: The Next Generation

I haven’t enumerated my race schedule since October, so I’d say we’re well past due for an update! I mean, not that you can really trust me – the race schedule I plunk down on paper blog post doesn’t always jive with what actually comes to pass. But you’re not above engaging with some wild speculation with me, are you? Still, let’s start with what I do know for sure – a framework to build the speculation around, if you will… OFFICIALLY ON MY RACE SCHEDULE I’m all registered for these! FREEDOM 5K, JULY 2022 – Believe it or...

Disney Makeover Time! Let’s Clean Up My Vanity

Because everything looks better spackled over with Disney-ness! As a card-carrying ADHD kid, my approach to organization is simple: first, make a mess. Second, become overwhelmed by the very idea of cleaning up said mess and go do something else, ideally in a different room where you can pretend Step 1 never happened.. There is no Step 3. No, obviously, there is a step 3, where I inevitably do clean up the mess with varying degrees of success and/or lapsed time. But I have ways to make some activities less painful. One easy solution is to Disney-ify the activity,...

Space Mountain Main Attraction

I Got The OTHER Space Mountain Minnie Ears

Remember when Disney came out with their original Main Attraction merchandise series in 2020? (It’s okay if you don’t; a lot of stuff happened in 2020.) Here’s Disney’s original announcement post, with the opening, Space Mountain set of Minnie ears, bags, pins, and more. Each monthly drop was plagued by the usual human and tech issues, including virtual holding rooms, glitching shopping carts, and resellers running off with huge hoards to sell online at massive markups. For the most part I just ignored the whole deal, as I hate shopping a) under pressure and b) without a discount. But...
