Well. The Marine Corps Marathon. It happened. Spoiler alert: I did not make a PR. đ
Were, technically. I was wrong. But I tried. |
But hey, neither did I, say, break a bone, and I did finish, so it could certainly have been much worse.
I’ll be gathering up my feelings and spewing them all over a blog post later this week; tomorrow, maybe. We’ll see. In the meantime, here’s last week’s taper-down training:
Sunday | ran 6.18 miles on the treadmill in 1:05
Monday | walked 2.39 miles outside in 40 minutes; 70 minute ballet class
Tuesday | ran 5.23 miles on the treadmill in 60 minutes
Wednesday | walked 2.11 miles outside in 35 minutes; 80 minute ballet class
Thursday | ran 4.32 miles in 50 minutes
Friday | rest
I went to the MCM Expo that day and HOLY CLUSTER, BATMAN. The organization thought it would be a bang-up idea to hold it in National Harbor, which for those not from this area is NOT METRO ACCESSIBLE.
I mean, MCM was running shuttles to the closest ones, but for me to take the Metro I would’ve had to change trains, take a shuttle, repeat on the way back. Huge pain. So I drove – in the middle of the day to avoid traffic – and on the beltway itself it worked fine. However, the area around the expo hotel was INSANE. The police were out directing the flow; it took me like 20 minutes to go a mile.
Once I did get inside, the expo itself was PACKED. Like, worse than runDisney packed. Bib pickup was fine, but the exhibition area was a madhouse. I had a picked out a MCM logo tank top, but the line was like an hour long for the privilege for exchanging my money for it. I said to myself: “This is a $38 tank top, and you do not have time for this.” I put it back and left the merch area.
The rest of the expo was equally crazy. I tried to make a full loop but couldn’t quite make it. Interesting note, though: runDisney was offering DISCOUNTS if you signed up for certain races right there: Avengers, Goofy, and Dopey. Discounts. From runDisney. Can you imagine? AND you got a sling bag. I asked if I could have one, but they said new signups only. Harrumph.
So yeah. Not stellar. Hopefully the expo moves back inside DC proper next year.

This week, I will be running NO MILES AT ALL. I ran a marathon, after all, and in less than a week I’ll be hitting WDW for the Wine & Dine Half. Yay! Not sure how my body’ll handle it – in the past, there’s been two weeks between races – but at the very least I’ll be giving myself maximum rest.
