In Which Jenn Tries New Running Shoes

I read an article a couple months ago about how it’s best to have several different pairs of running shoes. As the thinking went, each inpidual shoe affects your foot strike, gait, muscle use, etc. in subtly different ways. Therefore, if you’re on a shoe cycle, you’re less likely to suffer injuries from overuse. I don’t know how much hard scientific data there is to back that theory, but I know I don’t want any more overuse injuries, so I’m trying it! The difference this time: I’m not going to store to be fitted. See, I read another article in Runner’s World stating that some...

In Which Jenn Selects New Running Shoes (Small Giveaway!)

Hey, remember that time I went to Road Runner Sports for a shoe fitting and walked out of the store with Nike Vomero 10 running shoes? And remember how I wasn’t sure it was the right shoe for me after awhile? And then remember how I ended up loving it and using it anyway? And then remember how Nike ruined everything by changing the Vomero 11 so much that it didn’t feel like my shoe anymore? 🙁 🙁 🙁 When your favorite running shoe betrays you, there is only one cure: a new fitting. In that spirit, I used...

In Which Jenn’s Favorite Running Shoe Betrays Her

I was a Brooks Ravenna girl for a long time. I started with the Ravenna 4 running shoe and rode it out to the Ravenna 6 with no problems. Each iteration may have had some subtle differences, but for the most part they were unremarkable in that they continued to work fine for my feet. Then, a little over a year ago, I was fitted for the Nike Vomero 10. It was a switch from a support shoe to a neutral shoe and that took some getting used to, but after a rocky start we found a groove. I’ve...

In Which Jenn Gears Up For Fall Race Season

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present to you: Team Jenn’s Fall Race Season! Consisting of two pairs of Nike Zoom Vomero 10s and two rolls of Team USA KT Tape Pro, which I found on clearance at Target which was awwwweeeeesoooooome. Plan is as follows: wear first pair of 10s for remainder of training cycle + Navy-Air Force Half + National Capital 20 Miler; swap to other pair for last couple runs before + Marine Corps Marathon and then Wine & Dine a week later. Switch BACK to first pair for more training as they’ll still have some...

In Which Jenn Is Confused About Shoes

I am confused. Confused about shoes. I just wanted to rhyme. That’s my blog post for today. Thanks for stopping by! Nooooooo, I will elaborate. Maybe one of you magical readers can alleviate my confusion. Last summer I went to Road Runner Sports to get fitted for running shoes. I’d been using Brooks Ravennas pretty happily for awhile but it never hurts to reevaluate now and again, no? Roadrunner had a whole fancy pants process for determining my best fit, including videotaping me running barefoot on a treadmill. My shoe specialist told me that while my right foot does...

The Fairest Week In Review: 6/09

I dunno, guys. I’m feeling a little bereft. Not that I’m generally one to have a super-packed race schedule or anything, but as of this weekend I’ve knocked out all my races for the first half of the year. I don’t technically, actively have anything to train for until September. What do I do now??? I am considering piracy. This certainly doesn’t give me license to slack off on training. Those races in September include a 20 miler and a full marathon, so I need to use this time to build up my mileage slowly and wisely. And I...

The Fairest Week In Review: 4/15

No Moon again this week, guys. 🙁 She’s busily packing for Boston. 🙁 🙁 In the meantime, I don’t have a whole lot to report on the running front. Everything’s been fine. I’ve been experimenting the with the Nikes again, although I think for longer distances I’d better stick with the Brooks Ravennas – I just can’t risk the injuries even if it means there’s a bit too much support happening for my left foot. Does anything else have one rogue foot that needs support while the other doesn’t? Maybe we should start looking into mix-and-match pairs… I do...

In Which Jenn Gets An Awesome Deal On Running Shoes

Hi, my name is Jenn, and I just got myself a brand new pair of Brooks Ravenna 6 running shoes, normally $110, for $56. I KNOW! I was psyched too! Pretty! But not the all time prettiest. How did I accomplish such an amazing feat? Well, Brooks recently came out with their Ravenna 7, so they’re unloading all their old 6 inventory. I definitely want to try the 7s eventually, but the 6s work fine and older shoe models go for much cheaper. For example, Brooks was selling its Ravenna 6s for $70. A good deal to be sure....

In Which Jenn Has One Major Running Shoe Rule

When purchasing running shoes, always select the loudest, most obnoxious colors available. (In all seriousness, though, here are my two running sneakers: Brooks Ravenna 6 and Nike Zoom Vomero 10. The former offers a lot more support and the latter is lighter and speedier. I intend to take the Ravennas with me to the Marine Corps Marathon but keep the Nikes in rotation for shorter runs and races. Also, LOOK AT THE COLORS!!!) Do you use more than one model/brand of running shoe? Do you care about color? (Yes.) Don’t forget, you can follow FRoA on Twitter @fairestrunofall and on Instagram @fairestrunofall. If...

The Fairest Week In Review: 10/07

JENN: I’m gonna go make some tea; you tell me how your week in running has been. MOON: It’s been rather uneventful. Last week was the gloomiest week in recent history. They were handing out sand bags because of the hurricane. o_O I thought about investing in a boat, even. JENN: I hear running the track on cruise ships is good fun. Depending on how entrepreneurial you were planning on being with this purchase. MOON: Ha, I’m not sure I can go that deep. I was thinking a kayak or something. Should Pratt St. go under. Like this, only not in WDW, so WAY...
