In Which Jenn Runs Slow (& It’s GREAT)

I was in Ocean City, MD last week. I KNOW. Look, I’m not saying it was a good idea. Largely we went so that we could be the buffer between the world and an immunocompromised family member who was going. We wore masks any time we stepped outside, but you wouldn’t BELIEVE how many people on the boardwalk didn’t. It’s a mess and if you were thinking about going, maybe don’t? Anyway. Personal choices aside. I was there, and I was able to get in some boardwalk runs. Don’t worry, I got up early and knocked them out before...

In Which Jenn Has A Boardwalk Running Suggestion

It’s officially summer, and that means beach trips are just around the corner. And beach runs, of course.  Personally, I love running on Ocean City’s boardwalk. Probably just about any boardwalk, really. The sights! The energy! The ocean breeze! The flatness! The occasional water fountain! But even I have had some tough-ish runs in this wonderful setting, and it’s not hard to figure out why: sometimes, during a summer vacation at the ocean, it’s hot. I try to confine my summer outdoor runs to the morning, but once in awhile I’ve been forced by circumstance to knock it out in...

In Which Jenn Is In Love With Boardwalk Runs

If your regularly running trail is riddled with changes in altitude and terrain, perhaps your mind, too, wanders back to happy memories of runDisney races. Specifically: the flatness of Florida. How easy it is to run in Florida! So level! So devoid of hills! How glorious it would be to clock all your training there, perhaps lacking in challenges but blissfully free, with a far-reaching horizon. That’s where my head’s at right now – I’m logging all my training outside where the hills are, since I’m between gyms and without a treadmill. It’s good for me, I know. It makes...

The Fairest Week In Review: 7/18

Hellllo again! I am back from the beach. I ran. I read. I didn’t get bitten by bedbugs, although Pat thinks maybe he was? We’re still parsing that out. It was a good time, anyway. Hang on for a two-week workout recap! Sunday, July 2 | ran 7.29 miles outside in 1:20Monday, July 3 | walked 2.13 miles outside in 35 minutes; 50 minute Horton jazz dance classGood God, guys, I had NO IDEA that jazz used such completely different muscles from ballet. The backs of my upper thighs in particular were screaming for days. Tuesday, July 4 |...

In Which Jenn Runs On The Boardwalk… FOREVER???

Now that we have my itchy, welt-y, icky rant out of the way, we can talk about the nice things that happened on vacation. And there were lots! Hanging out on the beach and jumping over waves Eating “Sweetest Fish” Italian ice because it’s finally out of litigation Playing with Pat’s niece Going to the Kite Loft toy store and admiring a stuffed penguin that Pat later surprised me with after the trip because he is vying for Best Boyfriend Ever 2016; please vote for him Not being at work And finally… going for all three of my planned runs!...

In Which Jenn Runs In Ocean City, MD & Loves Water Fountains SO MUCH

I ran in Ocean City, MD last week! Where I proved empirically that boardwalk runs > all other runs. FACT. You may recall my route from last year – up and back on the boardwalk. This time around I added the last little bit I had missed before to one of my runs, and it was so much less than I thought it would be; it barely added .4 miles to my overall total. But it was shaded, so there’s that! Not much has changed about the run since before, so I don’t feel the need to offer a...

In Which Jenn Runs In Ocean City, MD

I did it! I did it again! I ran on vacation! Less badly than last time even! I found myself on an unexpected trip to Ocean City, Maryland over a long weekend, and the comparatively cool weather encouraged me to get myself outside for a run. That and the boardwalk – everything is more fun on the boardwalk. So I found myself stepping out onto an already unexpectedly well-populated boardwalk a little before 8AM (on vacation; this is the regular Monday equivalent of getting up at like 5AM). The condo we were in was practically smack dab in the...
