Hello and welcome to my 2026 Princess Half Marathon Weekend coverage! Today we’ll be discussing our meal at Epcot’s La Hacienda de San Angel. Read all the posts in this report here. Onward!
Everyone loves Mexican food! So it just makes sense that Epcot’s Mexico pavilion plenty of dining options. Whether you’re looking for a margarita to go, a margarita and snacks to say, counter service, or table service, the Mexico pavilion has you covered.
I’ve had a meal or a drink at just about every pavilion establishment: Cantina de San Angel, Choza Margarita, La Cava del Tequila (including the tequila tasting!), and San Angel Inn. Only one left to conquer: La Hacienda de San Angel.
WHAT IS LA HACIENDA DE SAN ANGEL?
La Hacienda de San Angel is a table service restaurant in, you guessed it, Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion in World Showcase. Unlike San Angel Inn inside the pyramid, La Hacienda is situated on the lagoon and has views to match.

The menus at Hacienda de San Angel vs. San Angel Inn are similar thematically, and you can get more or less the same margaritas in each. If you’re looking for sit-down meal in the Mexico pavilion, there are really two questions to tackle: what atmosphere do you prefer? And is the food at one better than the other?
WHAT’S IT LIKE IN THERE?
La Hacienda de San Angel has both terrace and indoor restaurant dining; for our meal, we sat indoors. The far wall as large windows that offer views of the lagoon. At fireworks time, they lower the lights and pipe in the music. You can see everything pretty well from that vantage point, although depending on where you’re seating you may be peering around a few heads.
Speaking of seating, as I mentioned about San Angel Inn, the tables are practically on top of each other. We didn’t find the atmosphere too loud for conversation, but we were extremely close to the table next to us. They all appear to be like that unless you get a booth. Something about the restaurant group?

Otherwise the vibe of La Hacienda is convivial, with a refined but nonetheless casual air. You get the idea that artisans had a hand in the decor. It’s still very family friendly, although not so much that no one would bat an eye at a screaming child. We had a tableful of conventioneers next to us if that tells you anything.
HOW ARE THE DRINKS?
As I said above, the margarita menu is very similar if not identical to the one in San Angel Inn, which in turn is very similar to what is offered in La Cava del Tequila. In fact, it’s my understanding that you can get any La Cava margarita in San Angel Inn even if it’s not listed on the menu. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the case at La Hacienda as well, although I didn’t test the theory.
We were already coming from a couple strong drinks at GEO-82, so I only ordered one beverage: La Flaca, described as tromba reposado tequila, fresh lime juice, splash of agave with orange liquor, popcorn salt rim.

For a drink that’s supposed to be skinny, this packs a solid flavor punch. La Flaca is more or less your standard issue margarita, but that’s exactly what I liked about it. Very lime- and tequila-forward, with just enough sweetness to provide necessary balance. I really hate that cloying taste you sometimes get from margarita mix, you know? The only thing I’m not sure about is that the menu claims a popcorn salt rim, and I’m not sure that’s what I got. Then again, I’m not sure what popcorn salt looks like – maybe it IS pink.
La Flaca is far from the fanciest margarita you can order at La Hacienda, but by paring it back to the essentials you can see they’re definitely doing it right.
NO FREE CHIPS FOR YOU AT LA HACIENDA DE SAN ANGEL
Yes, of course you can hang with us at Walt Disney World! However, we do have some core rules, one of the most important of which is that we share just about everything at meals.
This principle held strong at La Hacienda de San Angel, because we ordered everything to share!
You may wish to know that La Hacienda does not provide free chips with any sort of dip, so if you want that you’ll need to order it. (This is true of San Angel Inn as well.) We started with the totopos: corn tortillas with sides of white cheddar cheese and salsa.
Okay, it might be helpful to note that I LOVE tortilla chips with all kinds of traditional dips. Guacamole? YES. Queso blanco? YES. Salsa? Yes, but I prefer the non-chunky kind. You get it.
If you have a similar fondness for these Mexican restaurant staples, you will be happy as an alemja with the totopos. The tortillas were freshly fried, which is always nice. The queso blanco was cheesy and salty with none of that weird chemical taste you sometimes get with cheese sauces (looking at you, runDisney cheese cup). And the salsa was mildly spicy and NOT chunky, just the way I like it. (You can see the salsa in my drink shot above.)
I would highly recommend a totopos order for the table. The only caveat would be that it’s not a huge portion, so maybe double up for a large party.
HOW ABOUT THE ENTREES?
For our entrees, we split two different kinds of tacos: the tacos de camarón (fried shrimp, chipotle-lime aioli, cabbage, and salsa verde in flour tortillas served with rice) and the tacos al pastor (marinated and seared pork topped with grilled pineapple, onions, and cilantro. Served with plantains with crema Mexicana and cotija cheese, sides of guacamole, rice, and corn tortillas).
Let’s start with the tacos de camarón. These arrived pre-assembled with a side of rice. If you’re a shrimp person, I’ll think you’ll be pleased with this dish! The fry on the shrimp was light and not too greasy. The chipotle-lime aioli added a creamy element, while the cabbage and salsa verde kept it light. Nothing that reinvents the wheel, but a fine example of a staple.

We received one big bowl of rice since it was included with both entrees and we were sharing. The rice was clearly mixed with an element of some sort – cilantro, maybe – but didn’t have a particularly strong flavor. It’s a nice addition to add some bulk to the meal; nothing more.
DIY TACOS
The tacos al pastor could be described similarly overall: nothing that reinvents the wheel, but a fine example of a staple. These tacos came deconstructed, with corn tortillas delivered separately from pork. The pineapple, onions, and cilantro are delivered on the top of the meat, though I’d imagine they could be served on the side by request. Plus, bonus guacamole!
The pork had a good flavor and texture, but nothing about it stood out to me. The pineapple and onion were fresh and crisp and made nice accompaniments.
I much preferred the plantains as a side over rice, and was pleased to discover these were the dulce variety. Lightly fried, the addition of cotija cheese added a bit of zing.
Overall, I’d describe the food at La Hacienda de San Angel as exactly what you’d expect from an upscale Mexican restaurant anywhere. Not necessarily uniquely Disney, but what it offers is enjoyable.
WHICH RESTAURANTE DE SAN ANGEL REIGNS SUPREME?
Which brings me to the ultimate question. If you’re looking to make an advanced dining reservation in the Mexico pavilion, should you pick La Hacienda de San Angel or San Angel Inn?
The margaritas, as I said, are the same, and both have solid food. Neither offer much space between tables. Nevertheless, your priorities can lead the way.
Should your focus be on the food, I think La Hacienda gets a slight edge. I found the menu there a smidge more elevated. And if you’re gunning for a fireworks view, La Hacienda is the ONLY choice given that San Angel Inn is indoors.
For me, though, I’d have to go with San Angel Inn. While it might be a bit less fancy than La Hacienda, it is distinctly, uniquely Disney in its theme and location. No, you won’t be able to see the fireworks. Yet no matter what time of day, you’ll dine in a simulated night beneath the shadow of a volcano. To one side of you will be the kinetic energy of the marketplace. To the other, you’ll see the Rio del Tiempo of the Gran Fiesta Tour boat ride. These are things you simply can’t get anywhere else.
I don’t think there’s a bad choice here… as long as you order a margarita. It’s always five o’clock at Walt Disney World!
